A Climb Against Time is a compelling documentary that chronicles the extraordinary journey of Dr Tugrul Irmak, a scientist, patient, and passionate alpinist. In the summer of 2022, while ascending the high peaks of the Alps, Dr Irmak unknowingly climbed Piz Bernina with severe kidney failure. This silent ailment soon tethered him to nightly dialysis, a degenerative treatment that left him physically and emotionally drained. Following a life-saving kidney transplant from his mother, Dr Irmak returned to medical research just three weeks post-surgery, dedicating himself to developing an implantable artificial kidney at the University Medical Centre in Utrecht. His mission: to end dialysis and restore the colours of life for millions affected by kidney disease. Inspired by the Dutch National Donor Monument, 'The Climb', symbolising the uphill battle faced by transplant patients, Dr Irmak embarks on a monumental challenge to raise awareness and funding for his research, climbing all 41 Alpine four-thousanders between May and October 2025. The documentary captures his physical and emotional journey, a testament to resilience and innovation.
